Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT focuses on the cognitive triad which examines negative thoughts about the self, the world, and future.  CBT can improve your ability to evaluate and modify automatic thoughts and negative core beliefs.  Optimally, CBT can enhance cognitive flexibility and your engagement with life activities that are important to you.

EMDR
EMDR helps process traumatic events and adverse childhood experiences toward an adaptive resolution in the present.  Adaptive means that there is a transmuting process that allows disturbing material to align with a more functional sense of self and reaction in your present day experiences.  Your response to future events may reflect the new perspective you have and improved tolerance for uncertainty.

Felt Sense Polyvagal

The Felt Sense Polyvagal Model (FSPM) is the synthesis of two treating modalities that focus on trauma.  FSPM is a beneficial adjunct to top down models that focus on thinking.  The Felt Sense of Eugene Gendlin is a guided process of focusing your mind and body.  The second is Polyvagal Theory by Stephen Porges, PhD.  The Felt Sense provides a six-step intuitive process to access the wisdom encoded in your nervous system.  Polyvagal provides a non-pathologizing explanation of the trauma reaction as being an adaptive response for survival.  Together FSPM is a bottom up process that can facilitate your ability to know something more than the mind can grasp on its own.  It is greater than experiencing your emotions. FSPM is becoming aware of  descriptive qualities associated with the internal experience of a trauma memory.  This provides greater context of mind-body insight about an event which can lead to recovery.
